History

The Department of History at Nabajyoti College has been a key academic department since its establishment in 1971. Over the years, it has developed a strong reputation for delivering high-quality education and promoting a deep understanding of historical events, cultures, and ideas. Under the leadership of A. K. Azad, the current Head of the Department, the department continues to build on its legacy of excellence.

The department offers Honours and General courses, catering to a diverse student body with a wide range of academic interests and career aspirations. The curriculum is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of history, from ancient to contemporary periods. The courses are regularly updated to reflect the latest developments in historical research, ensuring that students receive a relevant and up-to-date education. The department is continuing the CBCS course and FYUGP (NEP) under Gauhati University. Following the inclusion of the college under Bhattadev University, the Department of History now offers FYUGP-NEP (BU) courses.

The department is supported by four faculty members who are not only experienced educators but also passionate about mentoring students. They are committed to helping students develop critical thinking skills and a deep appreciation for historical inquiry. In addition to its academic offerings, the Department of History hosts the History Study Circle, a dynamic forum that encourages students to engage with history beyond the classroom.
