• The societies and associations shall be subject to such guidance and control as the college administration may prescribe from time to time.
  • Only such societies or associations as have been recognized by the principal of the college shall have the facilities of the college premises.
  • All notices desired to be circulated by the students anywhere in the college and hostel premises shall require the approval of the principal.
  • Principal’s signature over the identity cards shall be affixed within 30 days from the date of admission and bringing identity cards to college is compulsory for all students.
  • Filled up registration forms should be submitted in the office within the stipulated time as fixed by college office. No registration form will be received after such time.
  • For pass certificate from the college one has to apply one day ahead and for a transfer certificate application to be made at least two days ahead.
  • Class attendance of a student should not be less than 75%.
  • The following activities of the students in the college will be treated as serious offence. All powers for maintaining discipline are vested with the Principal and the disciplinary action committee and their decision shall be final in all such matters.
    • (i) Encouraging and participating in ragging of any type.
    • (ii) Forcible disruption of classes.
    • (iii) Destruction of college properties like furniture, walls, fencings, etc.
    • (iv) Misbehaviour shown towards fellow friends, teachers and employees of this college.
    • (v) Forwarding any type of wrong information to the college authority.

The College has underlined certain rules and regulations which every student is expected to abide by. These rules and regulations are chalked out here separately for College, Hostel and Library for the convenient understanding of the students. The violation of the same will be considered as offence and punitive measures will be taken against the offender/offenders. This process will be taken care of by the respective disciplinary action committees.

College Rules

Students committing any of the following offences shall be considered as an act of indiscipline.

  • Being habitually unpunctual.
  • Indulging in and abetting any immoral and indecent activities.
  • Resorting to violence of any kind.
  • Disobedience to college authority and teachers.
  • Damaging, defacing or devaluing any college property.
  • Acts against public sanitation or, calculated to cause public nuisance, disturbance of public tranquillity, communal trouble or breach of public peace.
  • Holding any meeting in the college or hostel premises or college playground without permission, or against the order of the Principal.
  • Loitering in the College campus or in the College veranda.
  • Use of any unfair means in College examinations.

 

Hostel Rules:

The boarders of the hostels must abide by the following hostel rules:

  1. There shall be no ragging in the Hostels.
  2. Anybody found indulging in any behaviour or act that may be constituted as Ragging under Clause 4 of the UGC regulations is liable to be expelled from the Hostel as well as the College.
  3. Every boarder of the Hostel shall have to strictly follow the timings of breakfast, lunch, dinner, study hour and evening roll calls. Meals/breakfast must be taken in the dining hall itself and under no circumstances the boarders will be allowed to take away meals/breakfast from the dining hall to their room.
  4. During study hours, no boarders should remain outside without the permission from the Superintendent. Loitering and gossiping in other’s room during study hours will be treated as punishable
  5. Any type of substance-abuse (alcohol/drugs/smoking etc.) shall lead to outright expulsion from the Hostels.
  6. Leave of absence from the Hostel must be applied for in advance to the Superintendent through the hostel Monitor. The Superintendent reserves the right to accept or reject the same.
  7. No outsider should be allowed to enter during the study hours or College hours. No guests should be entertained to stay in the Hostel. Violation of the same will invite disciplinary action.
  8. A Hostel boarder may be asked to vacate the hostel by the Hostel authority at any point of time on the grounds of indiscipline and misconduct towards the authority, co-boarders, employees of the hostel etc. without any prior notice.
  9. Moreover, if a boarder is expelled from the College on any ground he/she will be automatically expelled from the hostel also. After expulsion, such boarder will not be allowed to enter the hostel premises for any purpose.
  10. College Hostel will remain closed during Summer Vacation, Winter Vacation and Durga Puja Vacation. No boarder will be allowed to reside in the hostel in any private capacity.
  11. The mess dues must be paid by the boarders within 7th day of each month or within such a date which may be notified by the hostel Superintendent. Non-payment of hostel dues on time should be a sufficient reason for disciplinary action.
  12. After the hostel admission, the student has to submit the hostel admission receipt only to the Hostel Superintendent as mess caution money which will be adjusted at the end of the final session.
  13. A hostel boarder will have to vacate his/her hostel seat immediately after the final examination.
  14. The Superintendent maintains a conduct register. In the event of any violation of hostel rules, the boarders are liable to be punished and have their names entered in the register for misconduct.
  15. Admission to the hostel is valid only for one academic session (not exceeding one year). The hostel Superintendent reserves the right to readmit a boarder for the next session taking the conduct and activities of the concerned boarder into consideration. Moreover, the attendance of a boarder in the College should be more than 75% while getting readmission to the hostel.
  16. If a boarder commits any unlawful activity that may be damaging to the reputation of the College/Hostel as well as detrimental to the students/deponents during the stay in the hostel premises, the College/Hostel authorities shall not be held responsible and shall not be accountable in any way in this connection.
  17. A Hostel boarder can not commit any violent/nefarious activities within and outside the Hostel/College premises and accordingly if found in contrary to the clause of the clarification made and on such event he/she will be solely liable.
  18. The hostel boarders may be allowed to contest in the college election provided their Parent/guardians submit an affidavit or stamp paper declaring that they will allow their wards to contest in the college election. And should there be any untoward incident, the College authority will be in no way made responsible.
  19. The hostel boarders desiring to contest in the college election should swear in writing that no election related activities will be carried out in the hostel campus. Violation of the same will invite disciplinary action.
  20. Using of electrical appliances like heater, Iron, oven etc. are strictly prohibited in the rooms of the hostel boarders. The Fans, bulbs and the tube lights should be switched off when not in use.

 

 

 

 

 

Identity card

 

An identity card is issued to every bonafide student at the time of admission. The card contains information of the holder along with a recent passport size photograph, duly endorsed by the Principal. The Identity Card is non-transferable. A student must keep the Identity Card with him / her and produce the same whenever asked for. The validity of the Identity Card is for one academic year and the same shall be renewed annually.

 

Attendance

 

Every student must attend classes regularly. The minimum attendance in each subject must be 75% of the number of classes held in an academic year. Attendance is a strong factor in internal assessment and has a huge impact on the final examination result.

Nabajyoti College provides scholarships and Freeships to deserving students. A list of scholarships is also mentioned in the college prospectus. The college authority verifies scholarship and freeship applications submitted by deserving students. The college management makes sure that students who qualify for financial aid will take advantage of it.

The basic task of this cell is to redress or review the grievance of the student who considers that, she has been subject to discriminatory behaviour or unjust with respect to her academic or administrative affairs within the college or is persuaded to be discriminated as per the rules and regulations of the institution.

As per the notification in regard to prevention and prohibition of ragging in the College and UGC act, the committee has been constituted to prohibit, prevent and eliminate the scourge of ragging including any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student, or indulging in unfair means or undisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension. Thereof in any fresher or any other student or asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student, with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student, in all higher education institutions in the country, and thereby, to provide for the healthy development, physically and psychologically, to all students. To achieve these objectives the committee has been constituted.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC), is the Indian Military Cadets Corps with its Head Quarter at New Delhi. It is the largest uniformed youth organization of the world established in 1948 by the National Cadet Corps Act, 1948 under the Ministry of Defence (MoD). It is open to school and college students on voluntary basis. The cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. The officers and cadets have no liability for active military service once they complete their course but are given preference over normal candidates during selection based on the achievements in the corps. Its motto is ‘UNITY AND DISCIPLINE’ which was adopted on 23rd December, 1957 and is engaged in grooming the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens.

Aims:

The aims of NCC as approved by the Ministry of Defence are as under:

  1. To develop character, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure, sportsmanship and ideals of selfless service among the youth of the country
  2. To create a human resource of organised, trained and motivated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of life and always be available for the service to the nation
  3. To provide a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in the Armed Forces.

Training:

Regular activities like Drill, Rifle Drill, Map Reading, Weapon Training, Field Craft and Battle Craft etc. are being imparted to the cadets as per the syllabus framed by the NCC Directorate for North Eastern Region.

The motto of National Service Scheme(NSS) is ‘NOT ME BUT YOU’

The Nabajyoti College was enrolled in National Service Scheme under Guwahati University. The scheme provides opportunities to the students to channelize their youthful energies into development and constructive activities. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service. The scheme enables the students to offer their free and good will services to the most wanted and backward places of the region.
