Zoology

OBJECTIVE
The objective of the Department of Zoology is to provide quality education and foster a deep understanding of animal biology, ecology, and biodiversity, with a special focus on the unique
flora and fauna of the surrounding region. Situated in a remote area, the department strives to promote research on local ecosystems, advocate for biodiversity conservation, and address
environmental challenges. Through skill development, community engagement, and environmental awareness, the department aims to empower students for advanced studies,
careers in zoology, and meaningful contributions to the sustainable development of the region.

VISION & MISSION
The department of Zoology was established in the year 1983 and since then this department has imparted knowledge about various aspects of Zoology to a large number of students,
which are now engaged in different professions. The greater region of Kalgachia has been benefitted from the education imparted by this department as this college is the only major
science institution in this region. We have achieved significant recognition as an institution of quality among the masses of Kalgachia which is reflected in our satisfactory enrollments
every year. We are in a continuous mission to encourage and engage our students in various professions related to our field and also beyond.

DEPARTMENT AT A GLANCE:
Nabajyoti College is the first higher educational institution in the minority dominated area of Kalgachia. The people of Kalgachia belong to the economically weak section, yet their spirit for
learning enabled them to establish a College for the future generation. Under the guidance of Late Ataur Rahman, Deputy speaker of LAS, Assam during 1968-70, the Nabajyoti College
was established in 1971. The college was started with Arts stream and was brought under Grant-in-Aid system in 1979. Considering the demand of need, the Science stream was started in 1983 and was brought under Grant-in-Aid system in 1992. The Science stream included Zoology, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Mathematics. The Zoology department is a full-fledged department today having all facilities for laboratory as well as for classroom teaching. There are five permanent faculty members and two bearers in the department. Major course in this department has been introduced in the year 2000.

CBCS Course which was operational till 2022 under affiliation from Gauhati University.
FYUGP under affiliation from Gauhati University for 2023 Batch.
FYUGP under affiliation from Bhattadev University from 2024 Batch.
