Kalgachia, 17th January, 2023:
Nabajyoti College, Kalgachia has celebrated Silpi Divas for commemorating Jyoti Prasad Agarwala on his death anniversary. The memory of his contributions added to the field of art and culture through his celebrated Assamese movies, poetry, songs and theater has been celebrated enthusiastically in the college premises.
The day long programme was initiated with the ‘Lighting of the Lamp’ by Prof. Rausanara Akhtar, Vice-Principal along with Prof. Sayed QuayumKabir Ahmed, Academic Observer and Prof. Shaheb Uddin Khan, HOD English Department, which was followed by homage to the portrait of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala by the other faculty members and students.
The celebration was carried forward by the Jyoti Sangeet Competition among the students, led by Dr. FakhrulAlom, Department of Political Science and Prof. Meghalee Morang, Department of Assamese. After the careful judgements made by Prof. Masud Hassan, Department of English and Dr. Neetu Saharia, Department of Assamese the following students were declared as the winners of the competition where the first position was secured by Amina Khatun (TDC 6th semester), second position was secured by Selima Nasrin (TDC 6th semester) and the third position was taken by Rashmiwara Khatun (TDC 6th semester).
An Open Meeting was also scheduled as a part of the celebration where speeches were delivered by Prof. Rausanara Akhtar, Vice-Principal along with Prof. Sayed Quayum Kabir Ahmed, Academic Observer, Dr. Dhurbajyoti Das, Department of Political Science, Prof. Nayanmani Devi, Department of Assamese and Dr. Kakali Hazarika, Department of Economics in order to highlight the contributions of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala to Assamese Society and Literature. After the Open Meeting, prizes were distributed among the winners of Jyoti Sangeet Competition. The programme was concluded with the closing statements delivered by Dr. Fakhrul Alom, Department of Political Science.
