Bhasha Gaurav Saptah Celebration

Kalgachia: Nabajyoti College, Kalgachia, celebrated Bhasha Gaurav Saptah with a series of events spanning from the 4th to the 9th of November 2024. Organized by the Department of Assamese and the Department of English, the event aimed to foster pride in regional languages and cultural heritage. The five-day celebration featured diverse programs, with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and invited dignitaries.

Day 1: Cultural Inauguration and Talks (4th November)

The celebration began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Dr. Shahjahan Ali Ahmed, Principal of the college, accompanied by faculty members. This was followed by a gathering presided over by Dr. Ahmed, where the Assamese song “Chero Senehi Mor Bhakha Jononi” was played, creating an atmosphere of linguistic pride and unity. After the felicitation of the dignitaries on the dais, Dr. Neetu Saharia, Assistant Professor, Department of Assamese, introduced the purpose of Bhasha Gaurav Saptah, emphasizing the significance of nurturing native languages.

Dr. Ahmed then extended a warm welcome to all participants. Keynote addresses were given by Ms. Saheda Hamida Khatun, Head of the Department of Assamese, and Mr. Samsul Hoque, Head of the Department of Economics, who shared their insights on the cultural and socio-linguistic importance of Assamese literature. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr.Malabika Baglari and the State Anthem of Assam.

Day 2: Language Fair (5th November)

The second day featured a Language Fair, exhibiting the works of prominent Assamese and Bengali writers. Through detailed displays of literary achievements, the fair highlighted the cultural richness of these languages, encouraging students and attendees to explore and appreciate their regional literary heritage.

Day 3: Quiz Competition on Assamese Language (6th November)

On the third day, students participated in a quiz competition centered on the Assamese language, testing their knowledge of Assamese vocabulary, grammar, and cultural history. This event generated enthusiastic participation, sparking a spirit of learning and pride among students in their linguistic heritage.

Day 4: Poetry Recitation and Drawing Competitions (8th November)

The fourth day featured a poetry recitation competition, where students passionately recited works by renowned Assamese poets. The event offered a creative platform for students to express their appreciation of Assamese literature. A drawing competition was also held, where participants visually interpreted themes related to Assamese culture and history, showcasing their artistic talents and cultural awareness.

Day 5: Closing Ceremony (9th November)

The celebration culminated in a grand closing ceremony, which commenced with a singing competition. Students presented a selection of songs, including Jyoti Sangeet, Rabha Sangeet, Bhupendra Sangeet, and Rabindra Sangeet, paying homage to the cultural icons of Assamese and Bengali music.

The closing program was presided over by Dr. Ahmed, while Vice Principal Prof. Kumaruzzaman delivered an inspiring speech on the importance of sustaining regional language traditions. The President extended a warm welcome, followed by the prize distribution ceremony, where winners of the various competitions held throughout the week were awarded.

The ceremony was seamlessly anchored by Dr. Neetu Saharia, and the event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Nayanmoni Devi, Assistant Professor, Department of Assamese, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of Bhasha Gaurav Saptah.

The Bhasha Gaurav Saptah celebration at Nabajyoti College was a resounding success, fostering a renewed sense of pride in Assamese language and culture. Through this multifaceted event, the college community came together to honor linguistic heritage, showcasing talents, and cultivating cultural awareness among students and faculty alike.
