Introduction
RashtriyaEktaDiwas, or National Unity Day, is celebrated on October 31st every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of SardarVallabhbhai Patel, a key figure in the Indian independence movement and the first Deputy Prime Minister of India. This year on 29th October 2024, Nabajyoti college organized a series of events to honor this day, emphasizing the importance of national integration and unity.
Objectives
The primary objectives of the celebration were to:
- Raise awareness about the significance of national unity.
- Encourage students to embrace the diversity of India.
- Promote the ideals of SardarVallabhbhai Patel.
Events Held
The celebration at Nabajyoti College included various activities:
1.March past
The day began with March past parade conducted by the NCC team of Nabajyoti College.
2.Lamp lighting Ceremony
The Ceremony advanced with lamp lighting at the college Auditorium, where the lamp was lighted by the Principal, DrShahjahan Ali Ahmed supported by other senior faculty members. This was followed by the singing of patriotic songs by two students vizEnjamamulHoque and MainalHoque, fostering a sense of patriotism among the students.
- Introductory Lecture
The introductory speech was delivered by the respected Principal Dr. Shahjahan Ali Ahmed sir stating the purpose and signifincance of today’s celebration followed by the lectures of the resource persons.
4.Guest Lecture
The guest lectures were delivered by Nafisa Younis, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Nabajyoti College ,and by Debutpal Bora, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science. The lecture focused on Sardar Patel’s life, his role in the Indian National Movement and his role in the unification of Princely states and contributions to nation-building and the importance of unity in contemporary India.
- Pledge Taking Ceremony
The day concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony where students promised to uphold the values of unity and integrity. This was a significant moment that reinforced their commitment to the nation.
The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks from Dr. Hemanta Hazarika, , Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Nabajyoti College.
Conclusion
The celebration of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas at Nabajyoti College was a resounding success. The events not only educated the students about Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s legacy but also fostered a spirit of camaraderie and collective identity.
