Kalgachia: The college celebrated the birth centenary of Bharat RatnaDr. Bhupen Hazarika with great enthusiasm and reverence on 8th September 2025. The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the Principal of the college, Dr. Shahjahan Ali Ahmed, symbolizing the beginning of an auspicious event. Following this, students performed a melodious chorus of the famous song “Axomamarrupohi,” paying tribute to the cultural legacy of Dr. Hazarika.

The Principal, Dr. Shahjahan Ali Ahmed, extended a warm welcome to all present and highlighted the significance of the day. The purpose and objective of the event were elaborated by Meghalee Morang, Assistant Professor, Department of Assamese, who spoke about the contributions of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in the fields of music, literature, and cultural integration.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr.Dhruvojyoti Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science. Dr. Das emphasised Dr. Hazarika’s role as a cultural icon and his efforts in fostering unity and social awareness through music and art.

To further engage the students, various competitions were organized throughout the day. These included a Quiz Competition, Bhupendra Sangeet Competition, Art Competition, and Essay Writing Competition, all of which provided a platform for students to express their creativity and knowledge about the life and works of Dr. Hazarika.
The event concluded with a Prize Distribution Ceremony, where students were felicitated for their outstanding participation and performance in the competitions. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Pritam Dey Sarkar, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, who expressed gratitude towards all the participants, organisers, and attendees for making the event a success.
The entire program was seamlessly hosted by Dr.AtrayeeBanaspati, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, and Dr. Sangeeta Choudhary, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, who ensured smooth proceedings throughout the event.
Live Streaming Event – 13th September 2025
On 13th September 2025, a significant live streaming event was organized to commemorate the birth centenary of Bharat RatnaDr. Bhupen Hazarika. The event featured a special tribute meeting in Guwahati, Assam, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in honouring the legendary musician and cultural icon.
The highlight of the evening was an 18-minute musical tribute performed by over 1,200 artists, who rendered a medley of 14 of Dr. Hazarika’s timeless songs. This grand performance underscored his profound impact on Indian music and culture. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the tribute meeting at 5:15 PM, paying homage to Dr. Hazarika’s enduring legacy .
The live streaming allowed audiences across the nation to partake in this momentous occasion, reflecting on Dr. Hazarika’s contributions to music, literature, and social harmony. The event was a testament to his lasting influence and the nation’s gratitude for his artistic and cultural contributions.
